Dramatic Decrease in Support for Protests: Participants Must Now Travel from Across Serbia for Major Events

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić remarked today that there has been a notable decrease in support for the protests occurring throughout Serbia, stating that “now they must gather from various parts of the country to a single location for significant events,” as is happening today in Niš.

He also expressed that he “will not permit the government to be formed on the streets while he is alive.”

“Naturally, there will be radicalization, since when support diminishes, it pushes one towards extreme actions and misguided behavior: targeting those with opposing views, attempting to seize institutions, and engaging in other unlawful activities,” Vučić stated during a discussion with residents in Negotin while visiting the Zaječar and Bor regions.

He further commented that those who are protesting are “growing impatient and are likely to resort to such actions.”

“In the end, there is a positive aspect to this situation: while it is indeed troubling as some aim to create a new Ukrainian Maidan, if they pursue it swiftly, it will resolve and conclude quickly,” Vučić mentioned.

He elaborated that the ongoing events in Serbia, characterized by the “colored revolution, demands for a transitional, expert government, and the involvement of students,” mirror occurrences globally, citing similar instances in Bangladesh and suggesting that “they now wish to replicate Bangladesh in Serbia.”

Students in Bangladesh, who overthrew Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government last summer, established a political party called the “National Citizens’ Party” on Friday, aiming to dismantle the entrenched political power structure and address corruption as well as the lack of democratic practices in the nation.
