The Future Should Be Fearless Against All Challenges

The intense rivalry that originated during the Cup of Cups finals prior to the 2006 referendum and peaked between 2012 and 2015—when Montenegrin and Hungarian clubs alternated on the European stage—will continue to unfold.

This time, as has been the case in recent encounters, there is a distinct favorite.

The Budućnost players will face the European champions, Djer, in the 16th round of the Champions League at “Morača” this Sunday at 4:00 PM.

“We shouldn’t fear anyone; our focus must be on our own game, maintaining seriousness and mental fortitude,” asserted Klara Monti Danijelson, who has proven to be a formidable asset in defense.

A Fresh Chance for Advancement

Following a summer filled with uncertainty regarding the club’s future, Bojana Popović’s squad faced three initial defeats in the EHF elite, though they showcased their potential during away matches at Rapid (32:27) and Odense (31:29). The most disappointing performance occurred at home in “Morača” against Brest (35:22).

“We delivered outstanding performances in Bucharest and Denmark, but fell short in the match against Brest. We anticipate a challenging game ahead, Djer has a roster packed with quality players, but our aim is to keep improving as the season unfolds and prioritize our own performance,” commented the Swedish handball player.

Facing the reigning champions offers another opportunity for many young talents within the Budućnost squad.

“Indeed, we are a youthful team brimming with potential—we just need to have faith in our system and philosophy for steady progress,” emphasized Danijelson.

Hauge: A Fighting Spirit Like Against Odense

Japanese goalkeeper Sakura Hauge (also known as Kametani) is a significant addition this season.

“A formidable team awaits us; we recognize we’re the underdogs, but we won’t let fear dictate our play. It is crucial to exhibit the same fighting spirit we demonstrated against Odense, which gives us grounds for optimism,” stated Hauge.

There is no need to elaborate on a club that has won the continental championship six times from 2013 to present.

“Djer has further strengthened their roster, bringing in many experienced international players, resulting in a blend of swift, powerful athletes, sharp shooters, and effective pivots. A significant challenge lies ahead, but we believe no team is invincible,” concluded Hauge.
