The Red Star basketball team triumphed over Paris in Belgrade with a score of 85:69, securing their position in the playoff zone of the Euroleague after 20 rounds of play.
Zvezda currently ranks fifth in the standings, boasting 12 victories and eight defeats.
Paris started strong, claiming a 9:0 lead, but the home team gradually recovered, managed to equalize by halftime, and ultimately dominated the newcomer to the elite league, who initially led the table but has since dropped to sixth place following their sixth consecutive loss.
“Congratulations to the players on their victory. We faced a team that had won six away games. The key to our success was defense; we limited a highly offensive team to just 69 points,” stated Zvezda coach Janis Sferopoulos in the post-match press conference.
The standout performers for the red and white squad included Ajzea Kenan with 15 points, Cody Miller-McIntyre and Nemanja Nedović each scoring 14 points, and Filip Petrushev adding 10 points. Joel Bolomboy also made an impact with eight points and 15 rebounds.
For Paris, TJ Shorts led the scoring with 17 points, while Nadir Heaphy and Kevarius Hayes contributed 13 points each.
Meanwhile, Virtus, under Montenegrin coach Duško Ivanović, secured a narrow 76:74 victory over Baskonia in a thrilling finish.
This marks Ivanović’s second win this season against Baskonia, the team he previously brought to prominence, and his fourth victory from six Euroleague matches since taking over as coach.
Matthew Morgan topped the scoring for Virtus with 17 points, supported by Isaiah Kordinje with 16, Achile Polonara with 15, and Andrejs Gražulis with 13 points.
In contrast, Baskonia’s Luka Šamanić scored 16 points, Nikolaos Rogavopoulos added 13, Timoti Luvavu-Kabaro registered 11, while Donta Hall and Trent Forest chipped in with 10 points each.
Real Madrid defeated Žalgiris in Kaunas, finishing with an 83:64 scoreline despite trailing by 11 points at the end of the first quarter.
At home, Olympiakos validated their status as favorites against Bayern, winning decisively 112:69, highlighted by Saša Vezenkov’s impressive 45-point performance.
Asvel caused an upset by beating Efes 82:76 in Istanbul, orchestrating a comeback in the final quarter.
