The Mornar basketball team is having a challenging start to the season in the AdmiralBet ABA League – currently, after 15 rounds, they find themselves at the bottom of the standings with only one victory, secured against Cibona in the seventh round, leading to a tight battle for survival as the season progresses.

Coach Mihailo Pavićević’s squad faces a tough schedule as the regional competition continues. Tomorrow (19), Mornar will visit Budućnost in the 16th round, followed by home games against Crvena zvezda and away matches against Cedevita-Olimpija and Mega.

As they prepare for the match against Budućnost, coach Mihailo Pavićević emphasizes that Podgorica is a formidable team, well-staffed in every position, and his team plans to go to Montenegro’s capital eager to compete.

“Budućnost, along with Zvezda, is convincingly the strongest. They are perfectly cohesive, boasting exceptional players across the board. With two of the league’s best playmakers and outstanding shooters like Maggi and Sulaimon, they are exceptionally covered in all positions. The work of coach Žakelj is evident – the team performs excellently, and their results reflect that. While we can’t pose a threat, we will aim to play our best against a top-performing team,” stated Pavićević in the match preview.

Budućnost is undoubtedly the favorite in this matchup.

“Let’s assess where we stand, and may this game show us what lies ahead, especially as we approach the decisive matches. We’re going into this with the desire to exceed expectations, but how well we can hold our ground will depend not on us, but solely on them,” clarified Pavićević.

Mornar has shown improvement in their recent games against Split and Igoke compared to earlier in the season.

“The last two matches have lifted our spirits, as we performed at a much higher level than in our previous away games. We’ve demonstrated our capability to compete against strong teams. Although we didn’t secure a victory, that’s how it goes,” reflected Pavićević.
