The former captain of the national handball team, renowned defender Vasko Ševaljević, has been appointed as the new director of the men’s national team, following the endorsement of the Board of Directors at the recommendation of the Association president, Petr Kapisoda.

With the recent appointment of French coach Didier Dinar, there arose a necessity to fill the long-vacant position of the men’s national team director.

“Considering Ševaljević’s extensive experience as a long-standing member and captain of the national team, and his in-depth understanding of the work system, his appointment is expected to enhance communication between the Association’s leadership and the coaching staff, as well as between the players and the new coach. This will significantly contribute to the national team’s success in the upcoming period,” stated the Association.

Ševaljević expressed that his new role as the director of the national team is a significant honor.

“When I concluded my time with the national team after the World Cup in Poland last January, I indicated that I would always support Montenegrin handball, and an opportunity has arisen now. Being appointed the director of the national team is a great honor, and I am grateful to the Board of Directors, led by President Kapisoda, for believing I can contribute positively to the national team’s performance in the near future. I am confident I will merit their trust, having been part of the national team for so long and being familiar with the system,” said Ševaljević.

He emphasized that he has already initiated discussions with coach Dinar.

“We recently welcomed a new coach, and I am already in daily contact with Dinar, so with the Federation’s support, we will establish optimal conditions for a successful start to the qualifications for the European Championship in 2026. We face a significant challenge, and I believe we can meet it effectively with the engagement of all parties involved in the Alliance,” Ševaljević noted.
