The future sees Voli and Dimitris Itudis squaring off once again in “Morača” after more than six years.
Back in November 2018, the Podgorica club pulled off a shocking victory against Itoudis’ CSKA, who would later become the European champion, in a Euroleague match. Tomorrow, they’ll be aiming for another win against the Greek coach and his new team, Hapoel, as they strive for a significant step toward the Eurocup playoffs.
This match could be a pivotal moment that opens the playoff doors wide for Buducnost, who will host the Tel Aviv team tomorrow (Wednesday) at 19:00.
“I believe Hapoel’s roster speaks volumes about the caliber of team we’ll be facing, and these are the kinds of games that players and fans alike want to be a part of. We definitely have to win this match,” stated Rashid Sulaymon, Buducnost’s defender.
Kenan Kamenjaš shared a similar sentiment regarding their opponent.
“We know Hapoel’s lineup is filled with talent. This is a team that’s been constructed for the top of the Eurocup. They have several Euroleague players, alongside those with NBA experience,” emphasized the center for the “blue and whites.”
In their first encounter, Buducnost played arguably their weakest game of the season against Hapoel (losing 92:72), but since then, they’ve made considerable improvements, boasting seven wins in their last eight matches as they head into this rematch with confidence.
“Hapoel is clearly an explosive team, so our defensive strategy will be crucial. I believe we have a talented squad, and if we can establish a solid defense, it will allow us to transition well and leverage our shooters and big men. That’s challenging for any team to defend against,” Sulaiman noted.
With four rounds left in the group stage, the Montenegrin team is still positioned below the playoff line, yet they have a realistic shot at reaching the Eurocup playoffs.
“This is yet another crucial game for us. We will certainly demonstrate our energy and determination, knowing that only a victory will improve our chances of making the playoffs we desire,” Kamenjaš emphasized.
In addition to Itudis, Hapoel has bolstered its lineup with players like Yam Madar, Antonio Blaney, and Marcus Bingham since their first meeting with Buducnost. With “veteran” stars such as Jonathan Motley and Patrick Beverley on board, it’s clear what kind of challenge awaits them at “Morača.”
Saltman echoed the sentiment.
“I hope the arena will be packed, that the fans will back us, and we’ll deliver an impressive performance,” concluded the Houston guard.
