Mikulić Wins Silver in Paris

Montenegrin karateka Nemanja Mikulić concluded his participation at the Premier League tournament in Paris with a silver medal.

Today, in the final match of the 75 kg category, he was bested by Egypt’s Abdal Abdelaziz, with a score of 8:3. The skilled karateka from Bijela secured his spot in the gold medal match following five remarkable victories.

He topped his group on Friday, claiming victories over Enes Bulut from Turkey (4:0), Kilian Kiz from France (7:2), and Algeria’s Oussama Zaid (4:3). In the latter match, he was trailing 3:1 with only 15 seconds remaining, with the winner being decided by ippon.

In the quarterfinals, he triumphed over Hisham Abdelgawad from Egypt in a tiebreaker (0:0), and in the semifinals, he prevailed against Libya’s Mohamed Abudabous with a score of 4:2.

The other Montenegrin competitor, Nikola Malović, competing in the 84 kg category, finished second in his group yesterday and did not advance to the quarterfinals.

He secured two victories but suffered a defeat against Moroccan Mehdi Sriti, which ultimately cost him a spot in the top eight. The Montenegrin national team in Paris was guided by coach Almir Cecunjanin.

The tournament in Paris gathered the 32 top athletes from each category as ranked globally, divided into eight groups.

The group winners, after three rounds of matches against each other, earned qualification into the knockout phase, representing the top eight contenders.
