Maintaining Pace with Đero’s Intense Rhythm: A Challenge of Constant Rotation

In the initial stages, the Buducnost handball team managed to hold their own against Đero, showcasing strength and energy. However, from midway through the first half, it became evident that only the home team was actively competing.

The final score was 33:21 in favor of the reigning European champions.

“Our defense was solid at the start, which contributed to a favorable outcome. For the first 20 minutes, we were a competitive opponent to the clear favorite. However, once Đer made all three defensive substitutions, the new players brought fresh energy to the home side, while we struggled with numerous errors in our offensive plays, allowing them to score effortless goals. Competing against Đer, one must acknowledge their extensive rotation; their regular substitutions keep the pace high, which can be challenging for a young team like ours,” commented Bojana Popović, head coach of the Podgorica team.

“At one point in the second half, we came close, but we missed crucial three-point and seven-point shots, which negatively impacted our performance. While the score is what it is, I take pride in our display during the first 20 minutes,” Bojana added.

Jelena Vukčević led Buducnost’s scoring with five goals, while Tanja Ivanović contributed four.

“We started the match with excellent energy in both attack and defense. Unfortunately, we experienced a decline in our performance, particularly on defense, and Đer capitalized on our errors to score easy goals. I regret the drop-off after such a strong start, but we must remain diligent and believe in ourselves more. I am confident we can perform better than we did today against Đer,” remarked Tanja Ivanović.
