Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed his belief that Serbia erred by supporting a European resolution in the United Nations General Assembly that reaffirms backing for Ukraine and its territorial integrity, asserting that the country should have abstained from the vote.

“I believe Serbia made a mistake today. I apologize to the citizens for this, and I take full responsibility, as I am likely fatigued and struggling to manage everything,” Vučić stated during an interview with Happy Television.

He noted that Serbia abstained from the proposal for an American resolution, which he believed was the correct move, and suggested that the country should have taken the same approach with the European resolution.

“As you can see, I’m making this statement at a time when it’s evident that I may lose favor or political support in the EU as a result. I think Serbia should have refrained. Ultimately, I have no one else to hold accountable but myself; I haven’t had the resources to address it properly,” Vučić commented.

He remarked that Serbia has “managed to stay resilient in the most challenging circumstances” for three years without imposing sanctions on Russia, adding that the country’s stance “will not be altered by one, two, or three resolutions.”

On the same day, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution reaffirming its support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity, coinciding with the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country.

Despite efforts, the US was unable to secure the adoption of its resolution in the UN General Assembly, which called for an end to the war in Ukraine while not mentioning Russian aggression or the territorial integrity of the affected state.

The resolution, prepared by Ukraine and its European allies, was passed with 93 votes in favor, 18 against (including the US and Russia), and 65 abstentions. Serbia was among the nations that voted in support of this resolution.
