Montenegrin karate fighters defend their status as the best team in the Balkans in Budva

Montenegrin Karate Team Defends Its Title as the Top Squad in the Balkans in Budva

The Karate Federation of Montenegro and Budva is set to host the Balkan Senior Championship from tomorrow through Sunday, as announced by the organization.

This event will also include the Balkan Championship for Veterans as part of the overall competition.

A total of 313 karatekas (337 applications) from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, and Montenegro are expected to participate.

They will be accompanied by 55 coaches, while 54 judges will oversee the competition. Montenegrin karate will feature 32 athletes – with 12 competing in kata and 20 in fighting.

In the kata category, competitors will include Mila Mraković (Bar), Katarina Vlahović (Iskra), Viktorija Raičević (Iskra), Mia Ramović (Mladost), Arijana Kočan (Bar), and Jovana Milić (Bar).

The kata team, coached by Biserka Radulović, will consist of Vlahović, Raičević, and Ramović.

For the men’s kata competition, competitors aiming for medals are Vladimir Mijač (Bar), Kenan Nikočević (Bar), Arijan Kočan (Bar), Nikola Milić (Bar), Benjamin Aljošević (Bar), and Filip Bakić (Budućnost).

The men’s team, under the guidance of coach Milena Milačić, includes Mijač, Nikočević, Kočan, and Milić.

Registered fighters for the competition are: Matija Bojić (Fokus, up to 60 kg), Balša Vojinović (Iskra, up to 60 kg), Ognjen Bjelajac (Omladinac, up to 60 kg), Nenad Dulović (Omladinac, up to 67 kg), Jovan Đuranović (Bar, up to 67 kg), Nemanja Mikulić (Bijela, up to 75 kg), Arsenije Tadić (Bar, up to 75 kg), Lazar Jovović (Bar, up to 84 kg), Nikola Malović (Onogošt, up to 84 kg), Dušan Bijelić (Bar, over 84 kg), Đorđe Durutović (Bar, over 84 kg), Nemanja Jovović (Bar, over 84 kg), and Lazar Potpara (Fokus, over 84 kg).

The fighting team competing in the matches will consist of Dulović, Mikulić, Jovović, Malović, Bijelić, Jovović, and Potpara, led by coach Almir Cecunjanin and national team coach Dejan Ivanović.

Igor Dijanić, in the 45+ age category and over 85 kilograms, has registered for the veteran competition.

In the senior women’s category, the following competitors will participate: Anja Jović (Omladinac, under 50 kg), Helena Backović (Omladinac, under 55 kg), Jovana Strujić (Ris, under 61 kg), Jovana Stojanović (Bratstvo, under 68 kg), Vasilisa Bujić (Bar, under 68 kg), Milena Jovanović (Omladinac, over 68 kg), and Mariam Zahrane (Bar, over 68 kg).

The women’s team will include Jovanović, Jović, Backović, and Stojanović, coached by Žarko Raković.

Tomorrow, on the first day of the competition, women in all weight categories and karatekas in the under-60 kg category will take to the tatami.

Additionally, the program will feature individual kata in the men’s competition.
