An additional defeat reveals two facets of the Budućnost handball team, as Esbjerg comfortably triumphed at “Morača” with a score of 27:23. The players from Podgorica displayed a significantly improved performance during the second half.
The Danes were in front by as many as nine goals; however, the “blues” fought hard to minimize the loss in the end.
“We anticipated a tough start to the match, particularly since we hadn’t played in four weeks, making it challenging to regain our rhythm. We made several errors, missed key shots, and the girls began to feel apprehensive,” stated Bojana Popović, coach of Budućnost.
The young squad was determined to continue fighting.
“We needed to encourage them and instill motivation for them to battle in the second half. I’m pleased that they didn’t completely give in, and I’m relieved they will be healthy for the upcoming game. Each match begins with challenges like today. It was only when the players began to trust our strategy that we saw improvements in the latter half. It’s evident that against a team like Esbjerg, we cannot afford to make mistakes like those in the first half,” Popović added.
The two teams will face off again next Sunday in Denmark.
“In the first half, we were too passive in our attacks, leading to numerous turnovers. We allowed several easy goals during counterattacks, but we performed much better afterward. I am confident that in the next encounter with Esbjerg, we can meet the necessary standard for the full 60 minutes,” remarked Klara Monti Danielson, a Swedish player from Budućnost.
