Admir Šahmanović, the Minister of Mining, Oil and Gas, has announced that the exploration of gas resources in the Montenegrin segment of the Adriatic will continue, alongside further progress on the Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline project.

“These initiatives have the potential to not only enhance energy stability but also to significantly bolster Montenegro’s geopolitical standing both regionally and at the EU level. We have ambitious plans for which we seek trustworthy and respected partners,” Šahmanović remarked.

Invited by the Turkish Ambassador, Bariş Kalkavan, and Burhan Genc, President of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce (TurkCham), Šahmanović engaged with members of the organization and representatives from well-known Turkish companies operating in Montenegro.

During the meeting, he highlighted the development plans and upcoming initiatives of his department, focusing on investment-worthy projects. Notable ongoing efforts included the reconstruction of oil storage facilities in Bar and the government’s plans to establish strategic oil reserves.

Representatives from “TurkCham,” along with companies from various economic sectors, shared their business and investment interests with Šahmanović, noting substantial opportunities for strengthening economic relations between Montenegrin and Turkish entrepreneurs.

Kalkavan praised “TurkCham” for its initiative to discover new investment possibilities through discussions with the relevant minister. He specifically noted the successful collaboration that led to the entry of the Turkish airline “Pegasus” into the Montenegrin market, which quadrupled tourist arrivals from Turkey. This initiative was achieved during the previous government’s term, with support from the then Ministry of Capital Investments and the current Minister, Šahmanović.

Genc expressed enthusiasm regarding the interest of Turkish businesspeople in investing in Montenegro.

“This meeting provided an excellent opportunity for exchanging perspectives and ideas, and we are particularly pleased that Šahmanović acknowledged the importance of collaboration and dialogue between governmental representatives and the business sector,” Genc stated.
