Emir Selimović, who is suspected of murdering his wife Inela and their 12-year-old son on the night of February 13-14, was apprehended on February 17 in a forested area near Prnjavor in northern Bosnia. This information was confirmed by Mirna Miljanović, spokesperson for the Republika Srpska Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a statement to Radio Free Europe.

The tragic incident occurred in the Selimović family domicile located in Kalesija, close to Tuzla in northern Bosnia. Following a received tip-off, police forces entered the apartment with the consent of the cantonal prosecutor and a judge from the Municipal Court, where they discovered the deceased bodies.

Selimović had been evading capture since the murder and was sighted in the Banja Luka area. Law enforcement located his vehicle near Lake Drenova close to Prnjavor, and discovered some of his personal items nearby, which prompted divers to search the area for several days due to concerns that he might have taken his own life.

The director of the Kalesija Social Work Center, Muhamed Majdančić, stated earlier that there were no prior reports of violence associated with this family.

In the previous year, five women were murdered in that region of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and in August 2023, Nizama Hećimović was also killed in the same canton.

Victims of violence in BiH can report incidents to the SOS numbers of gender centers: 1265 for the Federation of BiH and 1264 for Republika Srpska.

Moreover, incidents of violence can also be reported to the police at 122.

BiH has eight safe houses that can accommodate a total of 200 women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
