Water Polo Should Be Recognized as a National Sport

Nikola Milić has garnered the support of delegates at the Electoral Assembly, emerging as the fourth president of the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro.

Milić secured 11 out of 17 votes, triumphing over the renowned figure in our sport, Veljko Uskoković.

“I am delighted that nearly all delegates, save for one unable to attend, were present at the Electoral Assembly. I believe this forms a solid foundation for the future advancement of water polo and swimming in Montenegro. I am convinced that as long as we are all engaged in discussions, exchanging ideas, and debating arguments, we can foster development,” Milić expressed.

There is significant room for growth in water polo and swimming.

“Water polo is a sport that holds deep emotional significance for the state, dating back to 2008 when we celebrated gold in Malaga. I firmly believe it deserves to be recognized as a national sport, as various research has indicated. My aim during my four-year term is to make this a reality. I pledge to work diligently and contribute to the enhancement of swimming and water polo primarily through effective management,” Milić stated, adding:

“I am confident that together we can establish the necessary conditions for professionals to thrive. I extend my best wishes to all members of the Board of Directors and all future contributors to the growth of our two sports. It is crucial for us to continue investing in younger generations and to devise a proper transition model from youth selections to senior competitions, ensuring we do it the right way,” Milić concluded.
