In the ongoing “Respect Life, Return Weapons” campaign, which has been spearheaded by the Police Directorate for several years, a total of 33 firearms, 1,017 rounds of ammunition, and one hand grenade were voluntarily surrendered yesterday across various locations in Montenegro.

In the areas served by the Regional Security Center “Centar,” specifically in Podgorica and Danilovgrad, citizens turned in 16 firearms to the police, comprised of nine pistols and seven rifles, along with 432 rounds of assorted ammunition.

A total of nine firearms, including four rifles and five pistols, along with 434 rounds of ammunition and one hand grenade, were handed over to the police by citizens in Bar, Budva, Ulcinj, Kotor, Herceg Novi, and Tivat, under the auspices of the Regional Security Center “South.”

In the northern part of the country, under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center “North,” four firearms were returned in Berane and Rožaje, consisting of two rifles and two pistols, with 50 rounds of ammunition surrendered as well.

In Nikšić and Pljevlja, officers from the Regional Security Center “West” received 11 firearms, made up of four rifles and seven pistols, along with 101 rounds of ammunition.

Since early January, a cumulative total of 2,473 firearms, 83,193 rounds of ammunition, 260 hand grenades, and several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily turned over to the Police Directorate.

It is important to note that possessing weapons belonging to family members or relatives, even if probate proceedings have not been initiated in court, is considered illegal under the Weapons Act until one of the legal heirs obtains the necessary permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The police encourage citizens to call 122 if they wish to return their weapons, assuring them that they can do so without any legal, criminal, or administrative penalties, irrespective of whether the weapons are owned illegally or legally.
