Montenegro-UN partnership contributes to overall social development

Montenegro-UN Collaboration Enhances Comprehensive Social Development

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

During their discussion, Secretary-General Guterres raised questions regarding the latest regional developments, highlighting the significance of the European integration process in enhancing stability and promoting further prosperity in the Western Balkans.

He also commented on the global challenges currently facing the world, stressing the necessity of collaboration in fostering peace and advocating for human rights. Furthermore, he recognized Montenegro as an active and dependable member of the UN, expressing full support for the country’s ongoing developmental initiatives.

Minister Ibrahimović expressed his appreciation for the long-standing partnership between Montenegro and the UN system, which has greatly contributed to the nation’s democratization and overall advancement. He updated the Secretary-General on notable achievements in Montenegro’s foreign policy priorities, underscoring that collaboration with the UN aligns with and enhances the country’s EU reform agenda.

Emphasizing the significance of regional cooperation and positive neighborly relations within the European integration process, Minister Ibrahimović reaffirmed Montenegro’s dedication to the principles outlined in the UN Charter. He pointed out that Montenegro’s multiethnic, multiconfessional, and multicultural nature serves as a fundamental value and cornerstone of its society.

The two officials also shared perspectives on current geopolitical challenges, agreeing on the essential role the UN plays in upholding a rules-based international order.
