The Montenegrin women’s football team is preparing for the Nations League, kicking off Group C4 with a match against Azerbaijan on February 21st.

Mirko Marić, the head coach of the Montenegrin women’s senior national team, has revealed the squad for the opening matches of this new edition of the UEFA Nations League.

Marić has called up 24 players – including goalkeepers for the games against Azerbaijan and Lithuania: Anastasija Krstović (Sent Mihalji, Hungary), Ajša Kalač (Leotar, Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Marija Vuković (Budućnost).

Defense lineup includes: Ivana Boričić (Radnički Kragujevac, Serbia), Aleksandra Popović (Agram, Croatia), Helena Božić, Tanja Malesija (Dinamo Moscow, Russia), Maja Šaranović (Budućnost), Jovana Sarić (Ekonomist), Andrea Janjušević (Emina, Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Tatjana Đurković (Kifisia, Greece).

In the midfield, we have: Nadja Stanovic (Slavija Prague, Czech Republic), Sladjana Bulatovic (Fomget, Turkey), Nadja Djurdjevac, Sara Simonovic (Radnicki Kragujevac, Serbia), Jasna Djokovic (Agram, Zagreb), Jelena Karlicic, Darija Djukic (ALG Spor, Turkey), and Jelena Petrovic (Breznica).

For the attack, the selected players include: Armisa Kuč (Fomget, Turkey), Medina Dešić (Nuremberg, Germany), Maša Tomašević (Buducnost), Anđela Tošković (Crvena zvezda, Serbia), and Jelena Vujadinović (Breznica).

In the first round of Group C4, our team will face Azerbaijan on February 21. The match at the “Dalga Arena” is scheduled to kick off at 12:XNUMX noon local time.

“We have a good understanding of Azerbaijan; they have managed to defeat us twice in our last three encounters. We respect them greatly, and their style of play tends to challenge us, but I hope we have learned from our previous matchups. In the last qualifiers, they performed well in League B, showcasing their undeniable quality,” Marić commented.

Just four days following the match in Baku, Montenegro will host Lithuania at the FSCG Training Camp.

“Unfortunately, the draw was not in our favor as Lithuania is the strongest team from the third pot. I believe we are of comparable quality, and if we perform well, we stand a good chance for victory,” Marić added.

The February scheduling may pose issues as many leagues are still on a break.

“Physical fitness will be crucial during this window. Playing two games within four days is challenging, especially in February when many players are still in their preparation phase. However, I’m pleased with the strong form of our players in Turkey; I’ve watched their performances and they appear ready,” Marić concluded.
