Novartis Pharma Services AG DSD Podgorica has allocated over 7,000 euros towards the acquisition of two chemotherapy chairs, as reported by the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG).

According to the announcement, the donation was made to Sanja Lekić, who received it from Jelena Stojimirović, the Director of Novartis in Montenegro..

“The chemotherapy chairs are multifunctional and specially tailored for patient comfort during therapy. They feature electronic adjustments, antibacterial protection, a tilting leg rest with an anti-cramp function, as well as adjustable armrests,” the KCCG statement noted.

The health institution remarked that Lekić expressed gratitude to Novartis for the generous donation dedicated to the Day Hospital of the Institute of Oncology of the Clinical Center of Montenegro.

“On behalf of our patients and the staff at the Institute of Oncology, I sincerely thank you for acknowledging the significance of this aspect of our facility and for consistently demonstrating your commitment to social responsibility through philanthropic efforts that enhance healthcare for our patients,” Lekić emphasized.

“As is well-known, we are the primary healthcare facility treating all oncology patients in Montenegro, with the exception of those with lung cancer,” Lekić stated.

She also highlighted the growing patient volume at the Institute, noting that the Day Hospital’s capacity is increasingly constrained, affecting the provision of timely, adequate oncological care.

“All relevant organizations studying cancer statistics have warned of a significant rise in the number of cases in the next decade,” Lekić mentioned.

She noted that to enhance the operations and capacity of the Institute, they successfully implemented a central cytostatic preparation project last July.

“This significant national project will help alleviate congestion at the Day Hospital by enabling protocol planning and, in some instances, preparing therapies a day in advance. This work organization, among other benefits, greatly improves patient comfort and satisfaction. We are now looking to reconstruct the Day Hospital to add seven to ten new beds, creating more space for administering therapy—underscoring the critical nature of today’s donation,” Lekić added.

Stojmirović expressed her delight in contributing to the enhancement of patient healthcare in Montenegro.

“Novartis will continue to back the Institute of Oncology’s initiatives aimed at improving treatment conditions. I particularly want to thank Dr. Lekić for her collaboration on joint projects and for fostering Novartis’ role as a strategic partner to the Institute of Oncology, part of the Clinical Center of Montenegro,” Stojmirović remarked.
