Residents near the planned quarries in Bijedići and Srđevac are organizing a combined road blockade this Sunday at noon at the Ribarevina roundabout, affecting major routes toward Bijelo Polje, Berane, and Podgorica.
The organizing committee has extended an invitation to all citizens of Bijelo Polje, as well as people from northern Montenegro and activists from various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to participate.
“On this day, we will once again highlight the ecological challenges faced by the residents in these areas, stressing the importance of preserving the natural resources that remain in this region,” stated Iljaz Hasanagić on behalf of the organizing committee.
Inhabitants of Bijedići, Srđevac, and neighboring villages have previously staged protests against the quarry operations by the concessionaire “Elas,” owned by Šućar Omerović, and the company “Imperijal,” headed by Vojislav Smolović, urging the government to terminate their contracts.
