The Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica has initiated specializations in pathology and epidemiology to further the professional development of medical doctors, as announced by the Ministry of Health.
According to the Ministry’s statement, “The amendment to the Regulation on Specializations of Healthcare Workers and Associates, adopted by the Ministry of Health, has introduced specialist programs in pathology and epidemiology, along with the attainment of specialist titles for doctors of medicine in these fields at the Faculty of Medicine.”
The Ministry anticipates that these specialist programs will enhance the interest of medical professionals in pursuing specialist training in these disciplines.
“Moreover, this will reduce the costs associated with professional development, which has, until now, been conducted exclusively outside Montenegro,” the statement added.
The Ministry also highlighted that, beyond the two new programs at the Faculty of Medicine, there are already implemented specialist programs in radiology and family medicine.
The statement noted, “Last year, we commenced programs in the areas of anesthesia, resuscitation, and intensive care medicine, along with specialization in emergency medicine.”
This initiative, it was stated, has established a framework for comprehensive education and specialized training for medical doctors in Montenegro within these fields.
The Ministry further indicated that this approach will positively influence the rational use of funds allocated for such purpose.
According to the statement, “The adoption of the Rulebook allows a doctor who has completed part of their specialist internship at another health specialization faculty before enrolling in a specialization to have part of their internship recognized, provided it aligns with the program of the faculty they are entering, upon the proposal of the health specialization faculty, at the request of the healthcare professional, and with the Ministry’s consent.”
