The Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, has declared that all essential conditions for the construction of the eastern stand of the City Stadium have been met, and it has been added to the Public Procurement Plan, as per the announcement from the Capital City.

He anticipates that the Capital Projects Administration will soon provide approval, “after which construction could commence within the next six months at the latest.”

Mujović, together with his deputy Nađa Ljiljanić, held a meeting with Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav Šćekić. According to the Capital City, they discussed the enhancement of sports infrastructure in Podgorica.

“The discussion primarily revolved around the construction of the eastern stand of the City Stadium, a strategic initiative that will substantially enhance the sporting landscape of the capital. The project encompasses a multifunctional facility with an underground garage, which will greatly ease traffic congestion in this area of the city,” the statement detailed.

“Apart from this significant infrastructure project, we also covered other vital initiatives aimed at enriching the sports and social fabric of Podgorica, such as the development of the Athletic Stadium, the Olympic House, the Olympic Swimming Pool, and Podgorica’s bid for the European Youth Capital—a move that could position the city as a key hub for young people in Europe,” it added.

The Capital also mentioned that they discussed plans for new sports facilities across various locations in the city.

“Minister Šćekić conveyed the full support of the relevant ministry for these initiatives, stressing that Podgorica should showcase Montenegro through the development of modern and functional sports facilities. Mayor Mujović affirmed that the city administration will take all necessary steps to expedite these capital projects, as the citizens of Podgorica have waited too long for contemporary, European-standard sports infrastructure,” the statement indicated.

“The Capital City and the Ministry of Sports and Youth are committed to maintaining close collaboration to foster better conditions for the growth of sports, youth engagement, and a healthy lifestyle in Podgorica,” concluded the Capital City.
