A Turkish national, identified as AU (40), was apprehended on charges of passport forgery, according to the Police Directorate (UP).

The arrest was carried out by officers from the Border Police Sector at the Border Police Station in Podgorica.

“Upon verifying the identity of AU (40), a Turkish citizen, and reviewing the available records, it was discovered that at the time he applied for a residence and work permit, the individual was residing illegally in Montenegro, having exceeded the 90-day limit within a 180-day period from his first entry, which violates the Law on Foreigners,” the statement indicated.

“Furthermore, during an examination of AU’s travel document due to concerns regarding the authenticity of entry and exit stamps, it was found that there were no recorded state border crossings during the time frame specified in the travel document,” it further elaborated.

According to the UP, during questioning, AU admitted to giving his travel document to another Turkish citizen residing in Montenegro, who, for a fee of 200 euros, created an entry-exit stamp and prepared the necessary documentation for temporary residence and work.

“The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has been informed about this incident, and upon their orders, AU was taken into custody on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of document forgery. Officers from the Border Police Sector are continuing their efforts to monitor and control the movement and residency of all foreign nationals, as well as to take appropriate actions to uncover and prevent criminal activities and offenses,” the statement concluded.
