“Citizens Celebrate Outside Montenegrin Government Building, Chanting ‘The System is Rotten’ and Observing ’12 Minutes of Silence’ – News”

In front of the Montenegro building in Podgorica, a group of citizens gathered, shouting the names of the boys who lost their lives in Cetinje, Vukan and John, during the session.

The National Security session has entered its fifth hour and has been convened to discuss measures aimed at reducing civilian firearm possession following the tragic killing of 12 people last evening and leaving four others severely injured.

The Chamber for National Security emphasizes that the protection of lives and property is the fundamental duty of all relevant authorities, and anticipates complete cooperation from both citizens and institutions. Following the session, conclusions and subsequent steps regarding citizen safety will be communicated, according to RTCG.

The presence of numerous police officers in front of the Government building in Podgorica sparked outrage among the citizens present, who questioned their absence during the crisis, as reported by Podgorica news.

Protestors held banners reading “hands are bloody”, “the system is rotten”, and “12 minutes of silence”.

“Security in the state is non-existent. We demand more stringent weapons laws. We expect the police to take effective action; if not, they should step aside. We fund these people for our safety—either they perform their duties, or let them vacate their positions. If they are unable to fulfill their roles, we will find replacements,” stated one protest participant, according to CDM.

Citizens are calling for a transformation in the political management of the security system, demanding accountability and changes.

After a prolonged standoff, Aco Martinović attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head following a chase and succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

On social media, citizens of Montenegro are organizing protests in Podgorica and Cetinje for Sunday.
