On Tuesday, Montenegrin citizens voluntarily surrendered 72 firearms along with 2,110 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, and various weapon parts, as announced by the Police Directorate.

The weapons were returned as part of the long-standing “Respect Life, Return Weapons” campaign initiated by the Police Directorate.

According to police reports, citizens in Podgorica, Danilovgrad, and Cetinje handed over 47 firearms, comprising 23 pistols and 24 rifles, along with 1,550 rounds of assorted ammunition and one hand grenade.

In Bar, Kotor, Herceg Novi, and Tivat, residents voluntarily submitted 11 firearms, including three rifles and eight pistols, 377 rounds of ammunition, one hand grenade, and various weapon components.

Additionally, in Bijelo Polje, Berane, and Mojkovac, a total of eight firearms were surrendered, consisting of four rifles and four pistols, along with 100 rounds of ammunition and weapon parts.

The report further states that six firearms—three rifles and three pistols—along with 83 pieces of ammunition were returned by citizens in Nikšić and Pljevlja.

Since the start of January, a total of 2,392 weapons, 77,214 rounds of ammunition, 250 hand grenades, and several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered to the Police Directorate, according to police officials.

The police reminded that firearms owned by family members or relatives are considered illegal under the Weapons Act, regardless of whether a probate process has occurred, unless a legal heir obtains the necessary permit to possess the weapon from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“We would like to reiterate that citizens can contact the police at 122 to express their intention to return firearms without facing any legal, criminal, or administrative consequences, whether they possess the weapons legally or illegally,” stated the Police Directorate.
