Feeling Joyful and Accomplished

The Montenegrin women’s handball team achieved a victory over Romania tonight (27:25), marking their second win at the European Championship.

With this win, the Lionesses are on the brink of advancing to the main stage. The outcome will become clearer following the match between the Czech Republic and Serbia, which kicks off at 20:30 this evening.

“The key takeaway is our victory. Comparing the match against Serbia to today’s game, the defensive performance was not up to par. We anticipated that Romania would fight until the very end, as they demonstrated against the Czech Republic. I am pleased that the team maintained their composure until the final whistle. Regarding our attack, the only issues arose when Romania played a 5+1 defense. It didn’t catch us off guard, but it did create some disruption. Nonetheless, we managed to regroup, identify our options, and execute our attacks with off-ball movement,” Coach Suzana Lazović shared with RTCG post-match.

In the upcoming third round, Montenegro will face the Czech Republic on Tuesday at 20:30.

“Today, our defense was somewhat lacking, but I trust that we’ll strengthen it for the next game. I am joyful and proud that we’ve taken a significant step towards reaching the second phase. Against the Czech Republic, we need to give our all, ensuring that what was missing in this match is present in the next,” the coach commented.

Montenegro played tonight without Milena Raičević, who suffered an injury in the game against Serbia.

“We certainly felt Milena Raičević’s absence. However, during European and world championships, having depth on the bench is crucial, as the games occur in quick succession. Not even the most fit player can handle 60 minutes continuously—it’s vital for us to make effective rotations at the appropriate times and for every player to contribute as needed,” concluded Suzana Lazović.
