The Montenegrin national karate men’s kata team secured a bronze medal, while Helena Backović had her run halted in the third round of the Series A tournament in Larnaca.

The team, made up of Vladimir Mijač, Kenan Nikočević, Arijan Koćan, and Nikola Milić, triumphed over Serbia with a score of 40.60 to 39.50 in the medal match.

After receiving a bye in the first round, they faced defeat against Germany in the second round, with a score of 38.10 to 36.60. However, Germany’s advancement to the final allowed the Montenegrin team the opportunity to compete in the repechage.

In the medal match, they claimed victory against Italy, finishing with a score of 37.60 to 36.10. Germany ended up with the silver medal after losing to Kuwait in the final round.

In the 55 kg division, Backović had a bye in the opening round. She then secured a convincing 1:0 win against French competitor Tayla Levashe in the second round. However, in the third round, she fell to Tsu-Jun Chen from Chinese Taipei with a score of 5:2. Since Chen did not make it to the final, it eliminated Backović’s chances for a repechage opportunity.

Notably, Backović earned a bronze medal at the European Championships in the junior senior women’s competition the prior weekend.

On the first day of the event, Vladimir Mijač finished in the repechage at ninth place, while both Nikola Milić and Milena Jovanović were eliminated in the third round.

Tomorrow, Tina Vujadinović will compete in the 61 kg category.
