Arteta Expresses Disappointment Over Club’s Inactivity in January Transfer Window

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment today regarding the club’s inactivity in the January transfer window, although he did commend the team’s discipline in cup competitions.

With Gabriel Jesus sidelined for the season after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last month, and Bukayo Saka still nursing a hamstring injury, Arsenal was anticipated to recruit a striker.

“We had a clear aim, which is to explore opportunities to enhance our squad with players who can make a difference whenever the transfer window opens. Unfortunately, we have faced injuries to key players and haven’t been able to secure that. While we are disappointed, we also recognize the importance of being selective in the types of players we bring in, and we’ve remained disciplined in that regard,” Arteta stated, as reported by the BBC.

He mentioned that the attacking lineup needs to adapt, and they might need to experiment with new approaches due to the current injury challenges.

In January, three players departed from the team: Aiden Haven, Josh Robinson, and Marquinhos.

Currently, Arsenal sits second in the Premier League standings, trailing leaders Liverpool by six points but with a game in hand.

The London club is set to face Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Wednesday for the second leg of the League Cup semi-final, after Newcastle claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg.
