Advance Integration into European and Global Organizations

Montenegro is encouraged to continue its integration into European and international organizations, as this would enhance cooperation with other nations and promote economic growth, stated Dejan Đurović, head of the Montenegrin Parliament Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM).

Đurović made this remark during a meeting with PAM Secretary General Sergio Piaccio, who is visiting Montenegro at Đurović’s invitation.

As per the Parliament’s announcement, Đurović expressed gratitude to PAM for its supportive approach, which recognizes Montenegro as a trustworthy partner capable of providing assistance and expertise in tackling economic, social, environmental, and other challenges.

“This also allows us to contribute effectively to this esteemed international organization in the realm of multilateral cooperation,” the statement noted.

According to Đurović, Montenegro’s future significantly relies on advancing democratic capabilities, which involves fortifying institutions, enhancing the fight against corruption, and improving the educational system and economy.

These values, he emphasized, align closely with those upheld by PAM.

“Furthermore, it’s crucial for our country to persist in integrating into European and international organizations, enabling improved cooperation with other nations, economic advancement, and enhancing the living standards in the shared Mediterranean region,” Đurović highlighted.

Piaccio notably praised the Montenegrin Parliament Delegation’s responsible engagement with PAM over the past four years, characterized by intensified joint cooperation and commendable efforts in combating organized crime.

This recognition positions Montenegro as a credible ally in fostering a secure Mediterranean environment and throughout Europe.

“PAM, with two decades of experience in fostering dialogue, cooperation, and stability while implementing diplomatic initiatives, promoting human rights, and supporting economic development and environmental protection, believes that Đurović’s candidacy for PAM Vice President reflects the proactive stance of the Montenegrin delegation,” the statement articulated.

The Assembly further conveyed that this signifies a commitment to achieving objectives that benefit the region.

Đurović remarked that the Parliament of Montenegro would be profoundly honored to host the notable 20th anniversary PAM Plenary Session in 2026.

He pointed out that such an occasion would facilitate direct exchanges of experiences and ideas with representatives from Mediterranean parliaments and other international organizations.

This initiative, he added, would bolster parliamentary collaboration and reinforce PAM’s mission and vision.

“In particular, this event presents a remarkable chance to showcase the advancements Montenegro has made on its journey toward EU membership, as we aim to become the next full member by 2028,” concluded Đurović.
