The strategy of one of the greatest coaches of the past decade fell short—Ambros Martin and his Spanish team are heading home after just three matches in the European Handball Championship.
A draw against Poland in the final round was all the rejuvenated “fury” needed, but they were unable to secure it.
With impressive performances from Monika Kobilinska, Aleksandra Rosjak, and Magda Balsam, the Polish team claimed a 26:23 victory, advancing to the main round where they could face Montenegro as a potential opponent.
The “Lionesses” are set to take on the Czech Republic tomorrow evening at 20:30. A win will ensure they carry two points into the next group, while a loss by two goals or fewer would mean they advance without points, and a loss by three or more would eliminate them from the EHF Euro.
In addition to Poland, potential competitors for our national team in group 1 of the main round include France and Hungary, both with two points, as well as Sweden, which is yet to score.
The final qualifier for the main round from groups A and C was determined after Sweden triumphed over Turkey with a score of 49:19 tonight.
Dragan Adžić is also in the main round with group 2; the esteemed Montenegrin coach continues his impressive run with Slovenia, leading them to a victory against Austria (25:24) today.
A coach who guided the “Lionesses” to European gold and Olympic silver just six months ago became the first to lead the Slovenian women’s national team to the Olympic Games.
His team in Group E celebrated a win against Slovakia, though against the formidable Norway, a daunting challenge lay ahead…
The main round begins on Thursday, with two groups each containing six teams, where only the top two will earn spots in the semi-finals and a chance to compete in Vienna.
