The Czech Republic’s handball team battled through what was dubbed the “Montenegro defensive wall”. Whenever they found a way to break through, there was the outstanding Armel Atingre guarding the goal…

Atingre, who has been the goalkeeper for the Lionesses since February, played a pivotal role in the match against the Czech Republic (28:21), a crucial encounter for progressing to the main round of the European Championship, showcasing her importance to the national squad.

“My success is largely due to the support of my teammates. I specifically want to acknowledge our ‘small team’ of goalkeepers… They are incredible, we have made significant strides together, supported by excellent communication and teamwork,” Atingre expressed.

The main round commences on Thursday, where Montenegro will face Hungary, France, Poland, and Sweden.

“We need to take advantage of the time we have to rest because we have two challenging games in two days against the hosts and my former country,” she added with a smile.

Montenegro’s defensive performance against the Czech Republic will be remembered for a long time — the “Lionesses” allowed their opponents to score only four times in the first half.

“Since the tournament began, our defense has been remarkable. I am very proud of the players for their incredible effort,” commented Nina Bulatović, Montenegro’s right wing.

Initially, Montenegro faced some challenges in their attack, but as the wings came into play, the goals began to accumulate.

“We achieved our primary objective and secured two valuable points that will be beneficial later on… A new group of opponents is ahead of us; we are turning our focus to the upcoming matches. If we maintain this level of defense, I believe we can compete against anyone,” Nina stated.

Hungary will be the first opponent, and they will play in front of a packed Phoenix Arena.

“We thrive in front of a full audience, and I believe it will provide us with an extra lift, just as it will for them,” Nina added.

Andrijana Tatar, making her debut in major competitions, currently knows only triumph.

“We are filled with joy and pride; we will continue to perform at our best… We’re thrilled with our defensive efforts, conceding only four goals in a half is a significant achievement that highlights our defensive strength,” Andrijana remarked.

The player from Cetinje remains focused solely on her next opponent…

“We always try to concentrate on the next immediate game, taking it one step at a time and focusing solely on Hungary,” Andrijana concluded.
