Petar Porobić, Ranko Perović, Vladimir Gojković, and now Dejan Savić have led the way.

The Montenegrin national water polo team has welcomed its fourth head coach, adding a prominent coaching figure who has achieved tremendous success with Serbia.

The extent of his dominance with that team is underscored by the 17 medals earned by the “dolphins” under his guidance from 2012 to 2022, including two Olympic golds (2012 and 2016), three European championship titles (2014, 2016, and 2018), and one world gold (2015).

“The Montenegrin national team will be guided by one of the most accomplished coaches in water polo history, whose achievements have significantly impacted the sport. Throughout both his playing and coaching career, Savić has attained remarkable results that few can match in professional sports,” stated the Water Polo and Swimming Association of Montenegro.

In addition, they noted that his thorough understanding of the game, strategic acumen, and ability to adjust to various challenges have established him as one of the sport’s most esteemed coaches.

“He is eager and highly motivated to provide our ‘sharks’ with the guidance needed to achieve new victories,” the VPSCG added.

As announced, Savić will simultaneously coach Montenegro and the club he is currently affiliated with until the summer.

“He is under contract with a club in Saudi Arabia, and during our discussions, he promptly informed the club’s management of his strong desire to take charge of the Montenegrin national team. Given the positive collaboration, it was mutually agreed that Savić will be engaged with both the club and our national team until June, with full cooperation commencing in June next year leading up to the conclusion of the Olympic cycle,” VPSCG explained.

The first challenge awaiting the new coach will be the World Cup, set to take place in Romania from January 7 to 12.
