Serbian Parliament Session Postponed; Transitional Government Abandoned

Milenko Jovanov, the head of the Serbian Progressive Party parliamentary group, announced today that the session of the National Assembly, initially scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed to “some other day”.

During a press conference at the Serbian Parliament, Jovanov expressed that while he does not dismiss the prospect of elections, he firmly stated that there will be no transitional government in Serbia, and that opposition MPs will not be appointed as ministers without elections. He noted that they have previously agreed on the allocation of ministerial roles, according to Tanjug.

“Who among the students gave Miloš Jovanović permission to demand a transitional government? I am unclear about who backs the opposition anymore; they now represent no one but themselves. They are being driven out of political protests as if they are a contagious disease,” he remarked, emphasizing that this represents their final attempt to seize power, which he claims will not succeed.

Jovanov mentioned that both Savo Manojlović and Bojan Pajtić discussed the structure of the interim government yesterday. He stated that it does not involve “Srđan Milivojević, Radomir Lazović, Dragan Đilas, Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta” as they are primarily intended to support the election of this interim government in parliament.

When asked if he could disclose who the new prime minister would be following Prime Minister Miloš Vučević’s resignation and whether it would be someone from their party, Jovanov responded that it is the President of the Republic who assigns the mandate for government formation to the individual deemed likely to secure a parliamentary majority.

In response to whether he was ruling out the possibility of elections, Jovanov clarified that he was open to all possibilities except for the establishment of a transitional government or an individual coming to power without elections.

“We will see what unfolds in the coming days,” Jovanov concluded.

Concerning the attempts by MPs from the NADA coalition and Miloš Jovanović to obstruct the Collegium’s session, Jovanov stated that their efforts were unsuccessful and that the Collegium proceeded as planned.
