Protest in Novi Sad Outside SNS Offices: “Arrest Vučić”

Ažurirano: 28.01.2025. 21:36h

A large group of students, high schoolers, and residents of Novi Sad gathered today at 3:00 PM to demonstrate in front of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) headquarters on Oslobodjenja Boulevard. An hour later, they began marching through the city streets, with the demonstration continuing until 7:30 PM.

The students formed a long line starting from the university campus, creating a cacophony with whistles, vuvuzelas, trumpets, and drums.

They were joined by farmers on tractors and many motorcyclists, whose engines added to the noise.

High school students from Novi Sad also participated actively, accompanied by numerous parents.

To maintain order, security, primarily professors from the University of Novi Sad, established a cordon in front of the SNS offices.

“We want to express our gratitude to all parents and elders, as well as former students, workers, and fellow students who came to stand with us so that none of us suffer the same fate as the innocent Ana, who was violently attacked by SNS thugs last night. Such injustice must never happen again,” stated one student via megaphone.

“Ana is more than a student; she represents our collective struggle for justice. This attack is not merely against us, but against the very principles of freedom and justice that we are fighting for,” added another student.

During the march, protesters blocked roads and key intersections in the city.

The demonstrators showcased banners that read “Dialogue” with an image of a bloody baseball bat, referencing the violence against students and the government’s previous call for dialogue. Other slogans included “Enough blood”, “Your time is up!”, “All for one, one for all”, “The paint will wash off, the blood won’t”, “It’s over!”, “Don’t worry, mom, the government didn’t kill me today”, “Case – corrupt”, “Thugs have infiltrated textbooks”, “The play is over”, “Together we are stronger”, “Do we need to draw your attention?”, “Prepare your defense, your last days are coming”.

They also carried a banner stating, “Children belong in school, criminals belong in prison. Criminals are in power. That’s why children are on the streets.”

Students announced plans to blockade all three bridges on City Day, February 1st.

Chants included “Arrest Vučić!”, “Prison, prison”, “Resignation, then prison!”, and “Get out.”

The demonstrators waved the flags of Novi Sad and Serbia.

Kragujevac: Multiple Gendarmerie Vans Arrive at the SNS Headquarters

In Kragujevac, a peaceful protest by students and citizens concluded around 7:15 PM after lasting approximately an hour without incidents.

Initially, the protest began with a march starting at 5:00 PM from the BIA building, continuing through the main city streets to the SNS offices on Glavna Street.

Students from local faculties organized the protest in response to the attack on students in Novi Sad, which left one girl seriously injured.

The demonstrators created noise with whistles and chants, continuing as they arrived at the SNS premises around 6 PM.

A group of young people provided rhythm on drums, chanting phrases like “Your hands are bloody”, “Murderers”, “Let them out”, “Thieves”, and “Cowards”, while students playfully sang “Throw the cobras so we can play”.

Numerous banners were displayed, with the largest bearing the messages “Kragujevac has risen”, “An attack on one is an attack on all”, and “You are not in charge”.

A moment of silence was observed during the protest in memory of those lost in the November 1 canopy collapse in Novi Sad.

A minor disruption was caused when laughter was heard from within the SNS building, but the protest resumed with loud chanting.

SNS officials and members were present in the building, seemingly oblivious to the events unfolding outside.

Media reports indicated that the SNS premises were crowded as early as 4 PM, with multiple gendarmerie vans arriving on the scene shortly thereafter.

Protest in Niš in Support of Assaulted Students from Novi Sad

In Niš, several thousand students and citizens blocked the roundabout at the “Delta Planet” Shopping Center this afternoon in solidarity with the students from Novi Sad.

The protest commenced at 4 PM at the intersection near the Basic Court, followed by a march along Voždova and Vojvode Mišića Streets beside the SNS board headquarters, as reported by a Beta agency journalist.

At the intersection near the Basic Court, protestors spray-painted bloody fists and the phrases “Loyalists” and “Students for Students” on the pavement, with “Until the demands are met” prominently displayed in large letters.

Students left their mark with improvised Bloody Fists all along the route leading to the SNS headquarters, writing “Murderers” and “SNS mafia” on the doors and windows of the Niš Progressive Party building.

Throughout the protest, chants like “We want justice”, “Your hands are bloody”, “You will not beat us”, and “The South is not silent” echoed through the streets.

Demonstrators also carried banners with slogans such as “Profession above the mafia”, “No one is free until we are all free”, “Unrest. Instability. Vučić”, and “The children within us know everything, the right path to new dreams”.

The protest continues to proceed peacefully and is anticipated to last until 8 PM.

Thousands Rally in Čačak Against Assaults on Novi Sad Students

In Čačak, thousands of students, high school graduates, and citizens protested tonight against the violent attacks on students in Novi Sad, particularly the beating of a female student with baseball bats.

They blocked two roundabouts in the city center, organizing a protest march through the main streets that temporarily halted traffic from 5 PM to 6 PM, accompanied by the sounds of whistles and horns.

At the roundabouts, students displayed a large sign that read “Resignation does not equal justice”, as reported by a Beta agency journalist.

Protesters carried banners proclaiming: “We don’t want your resignations, we want you out of power”, “Serbia must not be silenced”, and “Only a strong reputation can best us”…

Among the slogans were “The period is a punctuation mark marking the end of the prime minister”, “It’s not someone’s dog, it’s Donna”, and “Everyone to the blockade to remove the government”.

Police were on hand to manage traffic during the roundabout blockades and the protest march.

The event was organized by students from the Faculty of Engineering in Čačak.
