The Cup final in Nikšić provided an exciting showdown between formidable rivals. Jadran Mtel started strong, but Primorac demonstrated resilience and clinched their third cup in this competition through a remarkable comeback.

The former European champions triumphed with a score of 14:11, celebrating another title just six months after their last.

– This is an extraordinary achievement considering the challenges we faced throughout the season. We’ve emerged victorious in the first part of the season, and my heart is filled with happiness. I want to acknowledge my teammates and express my gratitude for their performance. This could serve as a fantastic lead-up to the remainder of the season as we aim for a second trophy – remarked Dušan Matković, the standout player for Primorac in the final.

Matković’s performance was nearly perfect, netting six goals from seven attempts.

– Primorac holds a special place in my heart; I have immense love for the club and give it everything I have, just like all my teammates. A heartfelt thank you to our fans for their support – Matković added in an interview with RTCG.

In May, Vjekoslav Pasković broke Jadran’s lengthy reign in the championship, and now, as Primorac’s coach, he celebrates a cup victory.

– Our start was not encouraging, but as the game progressed, we improved and showcased our true form at the right time. There have been numerous poor results and issues this season, but we managed to overcome them, and that’s what makes me most proud of my team. I believe we deserved this cup. I congratulate everyone at the club, as well as Jadran, since it was a competitive sporting encounter with excellent water polo – Pasković stated.

He also conveyed a message to the fans.

– The support from the audience means a great deal during critical moments, and it truly propelled us tonight – concluded Pasković.

Though Jadran initially led at 5:2 and 6:3, the pivotal moment appeared to be Draško Brguljan’s goal that narrowed Primorac’s deficit to 8:7.

– We started the match well and held a few-goal advantage, but Draško Brguljan’s incredible goal at the end of the second quarter, practically invented, destabilized us and seemed to shake our confidence. Such a goal is rarely seen in crucial matches – Aleksandar Ivović reflected on the strike from his former national team teammate.

Ivović added that he had no complaints about the team’s performance.

– We played well up until the end of the third quarter… I’m pleased to see two strong teams in the pool after ten years – he stated.

Upon his return to the Adriatic, Vladimir Gojković was unable to secure a new trophy immediately.

– I congratulate Primorac on their fully deserved victory. They performed better in the latter two quarters, while we may not have capitalized on our strong start. We found our rhythm and opened the game well, but ultimately, a three-goal deficit is significant… We will analyze everything and focus on the remainder of the season – Gojković concluded.
