What Does the Proposal Resolution Say About Genocide in Jasenovac?

A group of MPs has presented a remote resolution to the Parliament of Montenegro regarding the Genocide in Jasenovac, which, according to the President of Parliament Andrija Mandić, will be included in the agenda for the upcoming session at the end of June.
This proposal has garnered the signatures of 43 members from the parliamentary majority, stating that the Assembly should adopt the resolution concerning the Genocide in Jasenovac:
“With profound compassion for the victims of genocide in Jasenovac between 1941 and 1945, and with a commitment to honor the 2025 milestone of this tragic event, recognizing that on April 22, 1945, the last remaining prisoners were liberated, the Assembly of Montenegro, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, resolves to emphasize the importance of memorialization and to condemn the atrocities committed in that death camp;
Understanding the historical significance of Jasenovac as a site where countless innocent lives were lost, the Parliament of Montenegro proclaims April 22 to be officially recognized as Genocide Remembrance Day for Jasenovac, to be commemorated annually.
The Parliament condemns any denial of the genocide in Jasenovac and urges the preservation of memories of these tragic events through educational initiatives and actions aimed at preventing any form of historical revisionism.
By adopting this resolution, the Parliament of Montenegro commits to actively fostering the remembrance of genocide in Jasenovac, promoting tolerance, understanding, and combating all forms of hatred and discrimination.
The observance of April 22 as Genocide Remembrance Day for Jasenovac, which occurred during 1941 – 1945, will be honored by the Assembly sending a delegation annually to participate in commemoration programs.
The Parliament encourages state organizations at all levels, the President of Montenegro, and civil society, including non-governmental organizations, to mark April 22 with special events in memory of the genocide in Jasenovac committed during 1941-1945.”
