The women’s handball team of Montenegro is still in contention for the third-place spot in their group and a journey to Vienna, having secured their first win in the main stage by defeating Poland today (30:28).

Our team is set to face Sweden next on Tuesday at 20:30.

“It’s tough for any team to rebound after two losses. The girls demonstrated today their resilience, scoring at the start of both halves. They pushed through, finding every last ounce of strength despite their fatigue. We made some errors and didn’t fully adhere to our game plan from the meeting, but that’s secondary now. What matters is our next strategy against Sweden,” said coach Suzana Lazović in her post-match comments to RTCG.

Montenegro missed out on semi-final qualification after losing to Hungary and France.

“It was challenging to play against Hungary and France. Upon reflection, I believe we had the potential to win those matches. This experience will be valuable for us moving forward. We’re now focused on Sweden and securing our ticket to Vienna,” Lazović noted.

The upcoming opponent is Sweden.

“Sweden won’t back down. They may not have met their initial goal, but I believe they will continue to fight. It’s going to be a tough battle. Tomorrow, we need to recuperate and prepare thoroughly, identifying our key attack points and conducting a detailed analysis. I’m pleased that the girls have some time to rest,” the coach concluded.

Tatjana Brnović made a significant contribution with five goals.

“The most important factor is our win; we are celebrating it as if we’ve achieved a major victory. It presents us with a chance to pursue our path to Vienna in the next match. Poland energized us, and we responded well. Ultimately, a calm mindset in the final moments secured our victory; we executed our goals effortlessly and defended effectively against their attacks,” remarked Brnović.
