DPM Ivanović Holds Meeting with EEAS Secretary-General Belén Martínez Carbonell

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Filip Ivanović, held a meeting with Belén Martínez Carbonell, the Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović congratulated Secretary-General Carbonell on her recent appointment. He reaffirmed Montenegro’s strong dedication to meeting its obligations throughout the negotiation process, underscoring the country’s vigor and ambition to join the EU by 2028. He also expressed his belief that, given the substantial progress made over the past year, Montenegro will persist in implementing the vital reforms necessary for EU accession.

In response, Secretary-General Belén Martínez Carbonell emphasized that the enlargement policy holds great significance for both the new EEAS administration and Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. She noted that the EEAS greatly appreciates Montenegro’s full alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, as well as its position as a dependable NATO ally.

The two officials also exchanged views on the political situation in Montenegro and the upcoming activities related to the closure of negotiation chapters. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed his optimism that the EU will continue to extend the essential support needed for Montenegro to become the 28th member of the Union.
