The Montenegrin handball team is set to play their final match in the main round of the European Championship.
While the Lionesses cannot compete for a spot in the semi-finals, their upcoming match against Sweden (Tuesday at 8:30 PM) remains significant—winning it would ensure third place in the group and a ticket to the Euro finals in Vienna.
Securing fifth place at the European Championship could potentially grant them a spot at the World Championship.
“We achieved our first goal with three wins in the initial stage. We dreamed of heading to Vienna, and while we regret not contending for a medal, aiming for fifth place would still be a remarkable achievement. We will give our utmost to accomplish this and bring joy to our nation once more,” stated Đurđina Jauković.
In the group stage, Montenegro triumphed over Serbia, Romania, and the Czech Republic but faced setbacks against Hungary and France in the main round. They secured the opportunity to vie for a place in Vienna with a victory against Poland on Sunday (30:28).
“I am thrilled that we managed to recover after two losses. There were many ups and downs in the match against Poland, but the most important thing is that we claimed the victory. Previously, we played two crucial matches within less than 24 hours, which is quite exhausting. Now, we have a bit more time to recuperate and prepare for Sweden, thanks to Andrija Damjanović and Danica Delić, who are doing a fantastic job facilitating our recovery,” Đina remarked.
