No new elections are needed, a transitional government does not exist in law

“No Need for New Elections: A Transitional Government Has No Legal Standing”

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin announced today that he is against holding new elections, asserting that there is a legitimate and legal parliamentary majority that remains secure, and that the notion of a transitional government is not found in law or the Constitution.

“After all, doesn’t the pro-NATO opposition claim they won’t participate in elections? If that’s the case, then we won’t either. What makes you think we care more about elections than you do? Perhaps you’re looking to alter your status? We are not interested in that; our focus is on continuing to work in line with our vision,” Vulin stated during an interview with TV Pink, while expressing uncertainty about the potential for elections.

He emphasized that what the opposition refers to as a transitional government would need to form an agreement with the current parliamentary majority, namely the Serbian Progressive Party and Aleksandar Vučić.

“Vučić mentioned that without elections, there will be no alteration in the parliamentary majority, and that is final. The individuals in parliament are people of integrity and ideology. Do you genuinely believe they can be directed to vote for the Democratic Party? Such coercion is impossible; everything they’ve previously opposed cannot suddenly be considered legitimate and acceptable,” Vulin remarked.

He also conveyed regret over Miloš Vučević’s resignation, stating that he was a commendable prime minister.

“I am curious about the direction the government’s policy will take. If it’s one of continuity, I would be satisfied with that,” Vulin explained, noting that continuity should involve maintaining relations with Russia, China, policies towards Republika Srpska, and the situation in Kosovo.
