The opening match of the World Cup tournament in Podgorica was dominated by the Serbian water polo team.
The “Dolphins” defeated Australia (10:6), confirming their status as favorites with a solid performance in the second half without significant challenges.
After the first quarter, the Australians had a slight lead (2:1), but from the middle of the second period, the momentum shifted in favor of Uroš Stevanović’s team, who took over from Dejan Savić after last year’s European Championship.
Nemanja Stanojević led the Serbian team with three goals, while Marko Radulović contributed two. For the “Kangaroos,” Blake Edwards and Luke Pavillard stood out as the top scorers with two goals each.
In the highlight match of the day, Spain triumphed over Greece (11:8), despite Greece leading for two and a half quarters.
The Spaniards launched a 6:2 run in the second half to secure a comfortable victory.
Alberto Munaris was outstanding with five goals, while the Greek captain Joanis Fudulis was the standout performer for his team with two goals.
At 19:30, the Montenegrin water polo team will take the pool against Georgia.
