Dodik’s Detention Canceled; Restrictive Measures Enforced
Milorad Dodik, the president of the Republika Srpska (RS) within Bosnia and Herzegovina, voluntarily approached the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to provide a statement regarding suspicions of committing the criminal offense of Attack on the Constitutional Order.
According to a joint statement released by the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Dodik appeared on July 4, accompanied by his defense attorney, for questioning as a suspect in connection with the aforementioned offense as defined in Article 156, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code of BiH.
On that same day, following the request from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Dodik was brought before the Court of BiH for a hearing.
“During the hearing, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina accepted the proposal from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, leading to the termination of the detention for suspect Milorad Dodik, as it was established that the reasons for detention were no longer valid,” the joint statement indicated.
Simultaneously, it was mandated that he report periodically to a state authority.
The prohibitive measures set by this decision may remain in effect as long as necessary or until the Court issues a different ruling.
The reasoning for maintaining these prohibitive measures will be assessed bi-monthly. The suspect has been clearly warned that failure to comply with the obligations set by these measures may result in his custody – as stated in the joint communication.
Milorad Dodik, along with several of his key political allies, has been eluding arrest for months due to a central warrant linked to an ongoing investigation regarding attacks on the constitutional order of BiH.
This March, the judicial authority issued a directive for the judicial police to detain Dodik, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and National Assembly President Nenad Stevandić.
The arrest warrant accuses them of committing the offense of “attacking the constitutional order.”
