A man posing as a “white magician” has been apprehended by North Macedonian authorities for defrauding a couple from Berovo of approximately 400,000 euros.
According to a police report, a 54-year-old individual from the village of Trubarevo in Skopje was accused of fraud by a 76-year-old man from Berovo on July 3 at the police station in Stip.
From 2022 to 2025, the accused “white magician” pretended to possess special paranormal abilities, misleading the complainant and his wife in order to gain illicit financial benefits.
He claimed to have powers to dispel evil spells allegedly affecting their son, which were purportedly threatening his health and life.
“Over nearly three years, he convinced the victims to provide him with sums ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 euros for ‘assistance,’ accumulating an illegal profit totaling 400,000 euros,” the report states.
Following the report, police “marked” the cash that the 76-year-old intended to hand over to the suspected fraudster. On July 4, law enforcement arrested the alleged con artist and his 76-year-old mother in Berovo, during which they discovered 3,000 euros in cash.
