To further the institutional cleansing of unauthorized influences and build a professional, accountable Police and Army of Montenegro, three additional police officers have been suspended from the Police Directorate. Additionally, the Ministry of Defense has issued two decisions to terminate the services of two military personnel due to identified security risks, announced Aleksa Bečić, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime, and Internal Policy, today.
“Moreover, the Ethics Committee has found that 67 police officers violated the standards and rules of the Code of Police Ethics. These are clear, documented conclusions necessitating immediate action within the system. I expect all those responsible within the system, without exception, to declare whether they will initiate disciplinary actions or not, along with the rationale for their decisions. The time for institutional silence has passed. I especially caution anyone who may hold information about violations of the Code that keeping such information hidden makes them complicit in obstructing justice,” Bečić emphasized in his statement.
He further stated, “Those who disregard the findings of the Ethics Committee are aligning with the system we strive to dismantle.”
“Anyone attempting to obstruct the vetting and reform processes seeks to uphold a value system where power is derived from fear and loyalty to clans rather than the law. That will not succeed. Montenegro has resolved to change, and institutions must not hinder these changes but instead be at the forefront. I urge all honorable and professional individuals within the police force to speak up and take action. Silence now may lead to legal repercussions tomorrow. Justice no longer seeks opinions; it demands accountability. And we will enforce that,” Bečić stated.
