A thrilling match unfolded between the water polo teams of Serbia and Spain in the SC “Morača” pool.
The “dolphins” emerged victorious following a penalty shootout (14:13, with a regular score of 9:9), securing their spot in the World Cup final tournament, alongside Spain, who had ensured their place earlier.
This is favorable news for the Montenegrin water polo players, who still have an opportunity to clinch their ticket to Los Angeles.
If Spain had won tonight, Montenegro would have needed to secure a victory with at least a three-goal margin in their upcoming direct duel with Greece on Tuesday at 19:30.
Fortunately, any win against Helena is sufficient for Vladimir Gojković’s team.
Serbia found themselves trailing 5:0 after the first ten minutes but managed to equalize at 5:5 in the second quarter, briefly leading 9:7 with just over two minutes remaining.
Spain managed to avoid defeat during regular time, but the young goalkeeper Vladimir Mišović’s defense, which included a crucial save against Albert Munaris’ shot, made all the difference in the penalty shootout.
