Plenković: The Objective of the Jasenovac Resolution is to Undermine Relations Between Croatia and Montenegro

Andrej Plenkovic

The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, stated today that the resolution concerning Jasenovac, passed on Friday in Montenegro, reflects a deliberate policy aimed at division within the country.

– This resolution represents a calculated strategy within Montenegro and conveys a message regarding mutual respect and the aspiration for positive neighborly relations – Plenković remarked during the Dubrovnik Forum, as reported by Hina.

He noted that the current majority in Podgorica has passed a resolution “without addressing this significant topic” and that it was enacted as a reaction to the United Nations’ stance on the genocide in Srebrenica, “manipulating another country in the region.”

Plenkovic asserted that Croatia would implement measures deemed appropriate in response to the “instrumentalization of the parliamentary majority” that aims to disrupt the relationship between Zagreb and Podgorica.

– Rather than confronting their own challenges and addressing issues they have ignored for the past eighty years, they should focus on fostering good neighborly relations and mutual respect, especially for those aspiring to join the EU – the Prime Minister of Croatia concluded.

Members of the Montenegrin parliament have approved a resolution on the genocide in the Jasenovac, Dachau, and Mauthausen camps.

A total of 42 deputies supported the resolution, while 41 voted in favor, and one opposed.

As the proponent, the President of Parliament, Andrija Mandic, expressed pride in stating that Montenegro has become the first nation on the planet to officially recognize Jasenovac in this manner.
