For many years, Manchester City had the upper hand in their encounters with Arsenal, especially given their Premier League dominance. However, that trend shifted this season.

It was evident this evening that City is no longer the powerhouse they once were, as Pep Guardiola’s squad suffered a resounding defeat on the road against Arsenal during the 24th round, losing 5:1.

From the very second minute, it became clear how the match would unfold, with Odegaard putting Arsenal ahead. Although Martinelli had a goal disallowed for offside and Havertz squandered a solid chance, the momentum was firmly with Arsenal.

On the flip side, Guardiola had a chance that hit the crossbar following a corner, and Savinjo created an opportunity just before halftime, but Raja made the save. Haaland managed to equalize in the 55th minute.

However, the scoreline did not stay at 1:1 for long—just a minute later, Partey found the net, followed by Luis-Skelly making it 3:1 in the 62nd minute.

City’s performance crumbled, which Arsenal capitalized on with Havertz scoring the fourth goal and Nwaneri netting the fifth.

Arsenal thoroughly outperformed the reigning champions, with Mikel Arteta tactically besting his former mentor, Pep Guardiola.
