Actors Are Now Being Targeted Too

Abaz Dizdarević, Vice President of DPS and Member of Parliament in Montenegro, expressed that there is an ongoing clash between the official policies of Belgrade and those individuals actively defending Montenegro’s interests. He cited the recent arrest of Montenegrin director Danilo Marunović by the BIA in Belgrade as a clear example of this tension.

Dizdarević pointed out that Ivan Vuković, the Vice President of DPS and a fellow MP, had faced detention under a similar framework just recently.

“While many sensible individuals still question the threat posed by a university professor and a director to the state of Serbia, it is evident they have become targets due to their resolve in bringing to light the intentions of Aleksandar Vučić’s policies towards Montenegro,” Dizdarević remarked.

He characterized the situation as blatant persecution and urged Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the Vice Prime Minister for foreign relations Filip Ivanović, and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović to act swiftly to protect Montenegrin citizens facing such intimidation whenever they arrive in Belgrade.

Vuković has also demanded a response from President Jakov Milatović of Montenegro.

“President, wouldn’t it be appropriate for you to reach out to a colleague (‘but really, it’s incredible how much you know about wine’ – that colleague) and inquire about the situation regarding Mr. Marunović and the ongoing maltreatment of Montenegrin citizens by Serbian authorities?” the DPS MP posted on the social network Iks.

Mirko Stanić, President of the SDP Main Board and European Union representative, highlighted that this represents a struggle “for culture and dignity” being waged by Vučić’s regime and those in Montenegro who loyally support it, referring to Marunović’s arrest.

He noted that even artists from Montenegro are now being targeted.

“Stand tall, do not weep at the doors of others, for there is no one behind those doors waiting for you,” wrote the indelible Krleža in Glembajevi…”, Stanić added.
