Al Jazeera to Close Its Balkan Regional Television Project

The regional television initiative Al Jazeera Balkans is reportedly being discontinued, according to N1 Belgrade. Sources indicate that the closure decision was made by the founder, the state of Qatar, citing “financial reasons.”
This platform, part of the Qatari media group, has been successful in the Balkans, operating out of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) since 2011, as noted by Klix.ba.
Al Jazeera Balkans serves the regional market with locations in Belgrade, Zagreb, Podgorica, Skopje, Ljubljana, and Pristina.
According to Klix.ba, Al Jazeera Balkans established its presence in Sarajevo in mid-September 2010, acquiring the local TV station NTV Studio 99 from the company “PEP,” owned by Adil Kulenović, for 2.3 million convertible marks, an amount that covered the TV station’s debts to the state.
