Perović: A Guardian Against the Falsification, Appropriation, and Denial of Our History and Tradition

The Montenegrin Foundation has announced the passing of academician Sreten Perović, renowned for his diverse contributions, relentless advocacy for Montenegrin culture, and dedication to safeguarding the authenticity of our history and identity.
Perović passed away yesterday in Podgorica.
“Matica Crnogorska extends its condolences to the family of Sreten Perović, an esteemed academician, poet, theater critic, playwright, and translator, who left us at the age of 94. He was an influential figure in advocating for Montenegrin culture and identity, always ready to defend the Montenegrin name and dignity. Our esteemed friend Sreten was the driving force behind many institutions and organizations in Montenegro, and one of the founding members of Matica Crnogorska, as well as a member of its Committee for Arts and Literature,” reads the statement from Matica Crnogorska.
They further stated that with Perović’s passing, “Montenegro loses an essential stronghold, and we are left without a longstanding comrade and cherished friend.”
