Since 2000, his coaching journey has persisted in the southernmost city of Montenegro.
Ranko Bana Popović, the second significant handball coach from Montenegro, and the first to guide the “lions” in a major event, achieving their inaugural point, now takes the reins of the Ulcinj women’s handball team.
“It is genuinely a privilege to have such a distinguished coaching figure on our team, and we are optimistic about our growth both as a club and a team,” Ulcinj declared on their social media platforms.
Throughout his coaching tenure, Popović has managed teams not just in Montenegro but also the cadet team of Serbia and Montenegro, with which he claimed two European championships, as well as Lovćen, where he predominantly played, and other clubs like Mojkovac and Partizan.
He steered the “Lions” during the 2008 European Championship, which was the first significant tournament for our national squad, and through a draw with Russia in the opening round, successfully progressed to the main stage.
Last season, Ulcinj found themselves in second-to-last position in the SBbet First League.
